Visakhapatnam or more commonly called Vizag (abbreviation) is one of the largest cities in the Southeast coast of India. It is considered “The Jewel of the East Coast”. Aside from being the main port of the east coast, Vizag is also one of the fastest growing cities in terms of real estate developments. A lot of townships have been developed in this area and one of the largest is the Shriram Panorama Hills developed by Shriram Properties.
Residents and visitors of Vizag City can enjoy an exciting, unique, and peaceful lifestyle. There are numerous residential communities and homes to choose from that would fit every lifestyle. The city provides all the facilities from basic living needs to recreation and entertainment. But aside from these things, another wonderful aspect of Vizag City is its rich culture and heritage which can be seen through so many temples and religious places established in the city.
One of the most popular temples in Vizag is the Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple situated at Asilmetta. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi, which is known to be the presiding deity of the locals of Visakhapatnam. The temple is located at the fort. Unlike other temples in the Southeast coastal region, people who want to worship the goddess can directly enter the Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple and touch the idol or bust of the Goddess. In other temples, worshipers can only gain access up to the sanctum sanctorum but cannot worship directly inside the temple.
Another well-known temple in Vizag is the Lord Lakshmi NarasimhaSwami Temple, which is located at the Simhachalam Hill Ranges. It is considered as one of the best places and temples to visit in South India. Every year, a ritual is conducted in this temple known as the Chandanotsavam or the “Nijaroopa Darshanam Day”. This is a very important and popular ritual for the worshipers of the god because this is the only day that they are allowed to see the actual appearance of the idol. During normal days, the idol is covered with Sandalwood paste or locally called Chandanam.
There are also recently established temples in Vizag and one of those is the Sahasrakshi Meru Temple, a Hindu Temple located in Vizag, Andhra Pradesh, India. Construction of the temple began in 1985 and was completed and consecrated in the year 1994. The temple was built for the Goddess Sahasrakshi and her consort known as Kameshwara. As part of Hinduism religion, the temple was once again consecrated on the temple’s 12th anniversary.
There are other amazing temples all over Vizag which are dedicated to the various gods and goddesses worshipped by the people in South India. All these temples and worshipping sites represent the rich and diverse religion, culture, and practices in Vizag and all over India. If you are living or visiting Vizag, visiting some of these historical and amazing temples will not only help you understand some of the deep and old practices in the region but it will also bring you close to your spiritual beliefs.
Within and near Vizag, you will also find a lot of churches, mosques, and other religious structures established for the people’s religious beliefs. Visiting or even permanently residing in this city provides all aspects of living and that includes the spiritual practices of the people.
Living in Shriram Panorama Hills will make you feel spiritually blessed and the verdant landscapes will provide the serenity that you seek.
